Melbourne public transport
Plan journeys around what overwhelms you
Public transport is hard when crowds, noise, or sudden change affect you. Calmer compares journeys by their likely sensory load — not just by how fast they are.
Find a calmer place nearbyWhat Calmer looks at
Crowding
Two years of hourly pedestrian counts from 134 City of Melbourne sensors, so we can say when a place is usually busy — and admit where we have no sensor at all.
Noise
Real decibel readings from council microclimate sensors. Only eleven locations exist, so we report them where they are and never invent a figure in between.
Somewhere to pause
Hand-checked places to stop and regulate, with honest notes on what each is actually like — including what we could not verify.
How to read what you see
Everything here is an estimate built from public data. Conditions change, and we cannot promise a route will be quiet or a place will be calm. Where we do not know something, we say so rather than leaving it out — missing crowd data is never shown as “not crowded”.
Still being built
Journey comparison, crowd predictions, and disruption alerts are not finished, so they are not linked above. Nothing appears in this app until it genuinely works.
